Scenic Journey on the Prague Semmering
01.08.2013, Maria Jagerova
Prague Semmering is a name given to a railway leading from the city centre to its district Repy. With its mountainous character, steep climbing and two viaducts it crosses, it evokes the Semmering mountain railway between Vienna and Graz in Austria.
The motor coach carries passengers from the Prague Central Station through the Vinohrady tunnel, over the railway bridge across the Vltava River to Smichov with lovely views of Vysehrad and Prague Castle. From Smichov it climbs along the Prague Semmering over the imposing Hlubocepy viaduct and among Zvahov cliffs from where a panoramic view of the city opens. Then it passes through the Kosíře-Motol nature reserve, terminating at Zlicín. The whole ride takes half an hour.
If you take the train from Smichov, sit on the right side of the train. When the train crosses Dalejske Valley on two arched viaducts, take a careful look out the window.
The ride with the Prague rail motor coach provides a fascinating experience, offered by a very few capital cities throughout the world.
The Prague rail motor coach operates every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday till the end of October.
The price for this unforgettable experience is only 32,-CZK.
